Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about lease takeovers in Belgium.

What is FleetSwap?

FleetSwap is the B2B marketplace for lease takeovers in Belgium. Businesses and self-employed professionals can transfer their current lease contract or take over an existing one.

How much does it cost to place an ad?

Placing an ad costs €150 incl. VAT per vehicle. This is a one-time cost — no monthly or recurring fees. Your ad remains active until the contract is taken over.

How does a lease takeover work?

In a lease takeover, another party takes over your existing contract, including the vehicle and remaining terms. The leasing company must approve. FleetSwap connects both parties.

Is it free to take over a lease?

Yes, as a buyer you pay nothing to FleetSwap. You simply take over the conditions of the existing lease contract.

Can I modify my ad after publishing?

Yes, you can modify your ad at any time. Modifications are free.

Which vehicles are eligible?

All vehicles with a current lease contract from a recognized leasing company in Belgium are eligible, both passenger cars and commercial vehicles.

How long does the process take?

The duration depends on the leasing company and approval of the new lessee. On average, a takeover takes 2 to 6 weeks.

Does the leasing company need to approve?

Yes, a lease takeover always requires approval from the leasing company. They assess the financial situation of the taking-over party.

How do I contact FleetSwap?

You can reach us by email at info@fleetswap.be or by phone at 0472 903 595.

What are the costs of a lease takeover for the buyer?

The buyer only pays the monthly lease price of the current contract plus any administrative fees from the leasing company (usually between €150 and €350). FleetSwap charges no commission to the buyer.

Can I terminate my lease contract early?

Early termination of an operational lease is often expensive (break fees of several months of lease payments). A takeover via FleetSwap is usually much cheaper because a new party assumes the contract without termination costs.

What is the difference between full leasing and renting?

Full operational leasing includes maintenance, insurance, tyres and roadside assistance. Renting (financial lease) only covers usage and you bear maintenance costs yourself. FleetSwap shows both types — use the "Contract type" filter.

Who pays the transfer fees to the leasing company?

This varies by leasing company and is negotiable between transferor and buyer. Most often the fees are shared or paid by the transferor as part of the deal.

Is VAT recoverable on a taken-over lease contract?

Yes, for VAT-registered businesses, recovery remains applicable under standard Belgian rules: 50% recovery for mixed-use passenger cars, 100% for pure commercial vehicles.

Does FleetSwap work with private individuals or only B2B?

FleetSwap is a B2B platform: both transferor and buyer must have a business number (VAT number). Most leasing companies only accept professional takeovers.

What happens to the deposit or security?

Any deposit is settled between transferor, buyer and leasing company. In practice, the buyer reimburses the deposit to the transferor when the takeover is signed.

How many kilometres can I still drive with a taken-over lease?

The remaining mileage budget is shown in every FleetSwap listing (current mileage and annual allowance). You take over the existing mileage package — overruns are settled at contract end.

What if the vehicle has damage?

If desired by the buyer or required by the leasing company, we can arrange a damage assessment by a certified expert.
